Fleet and tracking

Record the vehicles of your fleet, import them from a CSV file, link a GPS tracker, and see the last position and the travel history of each vehicle.

Cargopilot keeps a record of each vehicle that your business uses for deliveries. A delivery plan uses one vehicle. Read Delivery plans.

Add a vehicle

In the portal, open Vehicles, then select New Vehicle. With the API, send POST /api/vehicle.

FieldContent
licensePlateThe registration number.
licenseDiscThe number of the licence disc.
dateOfLicenseExpiryThe date when the licence expires.
vehicleIdentificationNumberThe VIN.
make and modelFor example, "Isuzu" and "NPR 400".
vehicleTypeMotorcycle, LightMotorVehicle, HeavyMotorVehicleSub16, or HeaveMotorVehicleOver16.
acquisitionDateThe date when the business got the vehicle.

To change a vehicle, send PUT /api/vehicle/{vehicleId}. To remove it, send DELETE /api/vehicle/{vehicleId}. GET /api/vehicles lists the vehicles of the business.

Import vehicles from a CSV file

Use an import to add a large fleet in one step.

  1. In the portal, open Vehicles, then select Import Vehicles.
  2. Select a CSV file. The first row must hold the column names. The columns are, in this order: License Plate, License Disc, VIN, Make, Model, Type, License Expiry, and Acquisition Date.
  3. Write each date in the format YYYY-MM-DD.
  4. Examine the preview, and confirm the import.

With the API, the import has two steps. First, send the file to POST /api/vehicle/upload. The response holds an upload id. Then send POST /api/vehicle/confirm-upload with the uploadId.

A GPS tracker in a vehicle sends its position to Cargopilot.

  1. Send GET /api/tracking/devices to list the trackers of your account. Each tracker shows its last heartbeat, its battery level, and its last position.
  2. Send POST /api/tracking/add-device with the vehicleId and the IMEI number of the tracker in the emei field.

When a tracker is linked, you can read:

  • The last position. GET /api/vehicle/location/{vehicleId} returns the latitude, the longitude, the heading, the speed, the battery level of the tracker, and the time of the last report.
  • The travel history. GET /api/vehicle/travel-history/{vehicleId} returns the distance for each day.

To connect a new tracker model to your account, contact us. For a shipment that a carrier moves, the carrier sends the status updates. Read Shipments.

Drivers

A driver is a member of your team with the Driver role. To add a driver, add the person to your team, and give the person the Driver role. When you remove the role, the person is no longer a driver. Read Users and roles.

GET /api/drivers lists the active drivers of the business. Assign one or more drivers to a delivery plan.

The driver app

Each driver sees the stop list of the day on a mobile device, with navigation to each stop. At each stop, the driver sets the status of the shipment and captures proof of delivery: a signature, a photo, and the time and place. Cargopilot adds the proof to the shipment. Set the shifts and the availability of each driver, so that route optimisation uses only the drivers who work.
